AHLS Course

         AHLS Knowledge Retention Study

The University of Arizona Advanced Hazmat Life Support 2 day Provider Course is one of the most recognized courses for health care professionals learning the management of patients affected by chemicals, deadly biological and, radiological substances. The course has been offered in many countries and over 15,000 HCP have taken it.
The Collaborative would like to study how long the knowledge from this course is retained, and if certain activities enhance its retention.

f you have taken the course in the last 4 years, you can help us by participating in this study.
Full Study Title: Can you measure the duration of knowledge retention by learners after they have taken an Advanced HAZMAT Life Support Provider Course using a Multiple Choice Quiz?
The Principal Investigator is Dr. Laurie Mazurik, Emergency Medicine Physician, CBRNE Collaborative, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, Canada
Advisor is Dr. Frank Walter, University of Arizona AHLS Program.
The Study Goal is to determine if we can use an on-line MCQ Quiz to measure your knowledge retention and if your personal demographics identify activities that sustain your knowledge.
The Objective is to create a tool for identifying an individual’s duration of knowledge retention, and a list of activities you can undertake to refresh your understanding.
If you choose to participate in this study, you will be asked to sign in on-line to complete the following:
1.     Informed Consent Form
2.     Personal Demographics
3.     On-line multiple-choice quiz, similar to your AHLS Providers Course MCQ.

There is no studying to be done and no aids to be used. The time it will take to complete the quiz will range from 20 minutes to 60 minutes.You will receive your MCQ results immediately when you do the quiz.It is anticipated that about 40-60 people will participate in this study over the next 4 months and study results will be available by fall 2015. All participants will receive a copy the study results.
